NATIONAL TREE PLANTING DAY: EDUCATION FOR PEACE

posted Nov 9, 2013, 8:34 AM by Belinda Dizon

Last September 20, 2013, PUERTO RIVAS ELEMENTAY SCHOOL joined the A Global Call to Celebrate UN Peace Day, Now 10th Time. The Theme for this celebration was Education for Peace.  As a highlight of the celebration we involved our hard working principal, Mrs. Rufina E. Ramos    as well as our teachers, parents and our Grade Six pupils and our SPG Officers  in this National Tree Planting Day: Education for Peace. This activity was also in support to Executive Order No. 26, otherwise known as the National Greening Program. (NGP). We planted 14 different kinds of trees in our school sites.

The Nations (UN) will examine the role of education in fostering global citizenship. Teaching children how to read, write and count is not enough. Education has to cultivate mutual respect for others and the morale with which the people lives, and has to help citizens forge more just,       inclusive and peaceful societies.

We were looking forward to this kind of actions for our environment, such as planting more trees.
